Linda M. Waters, MD, CM, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Linda Waters earned her Doctorate of Medicine and Master of Surgery (MDCM) from McGill University Medical School in 1981. She completed her surgical internship at the Montreal General Hospital, and then completed her general and plastic surgery residency training at Stanford University and was Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery at Stanford in 1987. Later that year, she was board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In 1990, she was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.


Professional Experience

Dr. Waters has been a part of the San Francisco Bay Area medical community since 1987. She was Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital and also worked at Stanford University Medical Center, active in the Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Stanford and the Medical School Admissions. She was appointed as a Fellow to the prestigious Institute for Research on Women and Gender at Stanford University and was a member of the Stanford Medical School Women’s Steering Committee. In 1997, cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Linda Waters, opened her cosmetic surgery practice in Palo Alto to provide a more personal approach to her patients. She has a special interest in eyelid surgery, breast surgery, nose surgery (rhinoplasty), liposuction and abdominal surgery.


Research Interests

  • Research funded by the American Cancer Society on Breast Reconstruction and Body Image, Sexuality and Mood with the Dept of Psychiatry, Stanford Hospital
  • Early Burn Resuscitation with the synthetic colloid: Hetastarch
  • Optimizing Skin Flap Survival with Nitropaste: A Comparative Pharmacologic Evaluation. ( California Society Award for Best Resident Paper)
  • Secondary language acquisition in a comparative study between Kindergartners & 2 nd graders in the Elementary School setting; funded by the Palo Alto School District and the Palo Alto Foundation for Education. In collaboration with Prof Padilla at Stanford University.

Personal Interests

Dr. Waters speaks English, French and Spanish as well as a smattering of Mandarin and Swahili. Dr. Waters is married and has three children, two of whom are university students. The youngest is in high school. She has completed three marathons, for Team in Training, raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. For two of these marathons, she was a Coaching Mentor for Team in Training. She has served on the Palo Alto Unified School District Foreign Language Task Forced for secondary language acquisition. She obtained research funding and established the language curriculum for a two year Comparative Spanish language program between kindergartners and second graders at Duveneck School in the Palo Alto Unified School District. She is also a volunteer lecturer for the Community Breast Health Project in Palo Alto and has received a Congressional Award from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo for her work in breast reconstruction. She has an ongoing interest in sending surgical supplies to Kitovu Hospital in Masaka, Uganda and is active in the Matibabu Foundation which works in western Kenya.
